2. Population Growth  6.2 billion people live on the earth.  People live on 30% of the planets land.  By 2025 the population should be around 7.8 billion.  Do you think that the population has always increased so rapidly?

Growth Rates  Death rate- number of deaths per year for every 1000 people  Birthrate- number of births per year for every 1000 people  Doubling time- number of years it takes a population to double in size  Zero population growth- birthrate and death rate are equal  Natural increase- the growth rate of a population; the difference between birthrate and death rate.

5. Challenges of Population Growth  Why is over population bad? -Food (especially in poor countries) - Resources- waste resources faster (oil, housing, water) - Can over population by good? -More technology

6. Population  Negative population growth- In Germany and Hungary  Population Distribution- Pattern of human settlement. (uneven)  Population Density- average number of people living on a square mile of land.  Migration- the movement of people from place to place
