2 Reminders Act 1 Quiz tomorrow: if you are working Picture Day, be sure to plan a make-up ASAP Pre-SLO on Friday—take it seriously! Seriously. I don’t need you to “do bad” on purpose. I need to know where you actually are with regards to the AP Exam. Graded Work coming on Thursdays; if you had a no-name paper, resubmit so I can record a grade. And write your name on your paper next time!

3 Pay Day Two weeks after Act 1, Scene 1—same scenery/traditions make it easy to compare What has changed in two weeks? Also suggests the cycles we go through Troy won case at the trash company But what bad things are looming ahead Cory’s football? Lyons’ career? Gabe’s warnings? Alberta Troy doesn’t even know how to drive? Also is illiterate—Is this part of why he has the life he has?

4 Lyons Wants to pay Troy back Troy refuses to take it Why? Is it ironic that Gabe immediately follows this with “Better get ready for the Judgment”? Is he warning Troy about his actions? Invites Troy to come here him play Jazz Troy calls it “Chinese Music” Derogatory remark, shows his ignorance, means the music is foreign to him Jazz is actually a type of music created by people of his own culture

5 Cory Tory went to the A&P to check up on Cory; then went to Coach Zellman Furious that Troy talked to the coach and won’t let him play football Thinks Troy is afraid that Cory will be better than him

6 Fathers Bono’s father—was a wanderer, Bono doesn’t want kids because he doesn’t want to wander/leave them like his father did Troy’s father—only concerned about working and how hard his kids worked, not compassionate; has a responsibility to his kids; didn’t have the walking blues Mom left the family “I got to the place where I could feel him kicking in my blood and knew that the only thing that separated us was the matter of a few years.” –realize how similar he is to his father Both men struggle to understand themselves in light of their fathers Lyons is not like his father because Troy wasn’t there for his childhood
