4 Convicts This video talks about William Cuffay’s life. The first fleet arrived in 1788. 737 people came to the island of Australia. BackAborigines William Cuffay was born at the Naval base in Chatham, Kent, in 1788. Cuffay worked as a tailor for over 30 years, but he was sacked in 1834. when he joined a tailor’s union and went on strike.

5 Aborigines Australia was known as Terra Nullius which meant no man’s land. This was because there were no white people living on the island. This picture is called Queensland Native police dispersing. The date when it was drawn was in 1898. The place of the picture is Queensland. This shows that the white people treated the Aborigines badly and shot them because they were black. Back Convicts

7 Keeping Britain and Australia in touch. To get a message across to Australia…..In 1800 it took 5 months..In 1860 it took 2 months..In 1875 it took 3 days..And today it takes 1 minute. Britain made the telegraph to get news and to know what was going on in Australia. It reduced in time because they built steam boats. Back

8 The animals that were taken to Australia. Animal = Cat Who introduced the Cat = British people The cat was introduced to the Australian environment to kill birds and small animals. The cat was not successful because it killed the endangered animals. Back

9 World War 1 and 2 In World War 2 there were more Australians because they were scared that Japan might attack their island. This video talks about World War 2 compared to World War 1. Back

10 The Australian flags Aborigines’ Flag Black is for their skin. Red is for their land and blood that was shed. Yellow is for the sun. This flag is from the British empire. Australia uses this flag today. Back

12 Conclusion My conclusion this that the British empire did not help Australia because they shot the Aborigines and destroyed their land. The European population did rise and Australia became more influential around the world The Aborigine population went down ! Back
