4. Convicts This video talks about William Cuffay’s life. The first fleet arrived in 1788. 737 people came to the island of Australia. BackAborigines William Cuffay was born at the Naval base in Chatham, Kent, in 1788. Cuffay worked as a tailor for over 30 years, but he was sacked in 1834. when he joined a tailor’s union and went on strike.
