4 Pablo Picasso born in 1881 - Malaga, Spain his father - an art teacher an interest in drawing at an early age Barcelona's School of Fine Arts – 14-year-old - a talented but not disciplined student 16 – year-old - a student of art school - Madrid's Royal Academy of San Fernando 1900 - first trip to Paris - Picasso's work began to attract the attention of art collectors 1907 - Les Demoiselles d'Avignon was painted "Cubism“ - the brand new art movement - created with painter and sculptor Georges Braque died in 1973 -France

9 Pop art (Popular art) inspired by popular culture centered on consumerism and materialism beginning in the 1950s, very popular in the 1960s; started in the United Kingdom, became a true art movement in New York City includes: famous celebrities - movie stars, rock stars, commercial items - soup cans, soft drinks, comic books, any other items popular in the commercial world artists use these items to create art repeating the item over and over again, changing the colour or texture of the item, putting different items together to make a picture

10 Roy Lichtenstein born in 1923, in New York City as a boy - passionate for both science and comic books as a teenager - interested in art - took watercolor classes at Parsons School of Design studies at Ohio State University in Columbus interrupted in 1943 and sent to Europe for World War II by the mid-1960s - nationally known as a leader in the Pop Art movement 1946 - returned to Ohio to finish his degrees in fine arts died of complications from pneumonia in1997 in New York

12 Realism beginning in France in the 1850s revolted against the emotional and exaggerated themes of Romanticism artists - tried to depict the real world exactly as it appears - didn't interpret the setting - didn’t add emotional meaning to the scenes the Realism movement lasted forty years (1840 -1880 ) everyday characters, situations, events

13 David Hockney born in 1937 in England art school in London 1963 - first visit in Los Angeles 1966 - officially moved in Los Angeles his favorite subject - the swimming pools of L.A. began working with photography more extensively - created the collage as an art form 1964 - 1971 - numerous paintings of swimming pools became known for large, iconic works – „A Bigger Splash“ a pioneer of Pop Art, considered more of a realist; one of the most popular living British artists known for experimenting with different media including photography and digital art
