4 Perambulatory Clauses Describes the background information Draws on old documents/prior resolutions Discusses old actions/solutions/outcomes Reflects general opinions States facts and figures

5 Perambulatory Clauses Alarmed by Having adopted Noting with approval Confident Emphasizing Seeking Reaffirming Further recalling

6 Operative Clauses Offers new solutions for topics Advises particular actions Provides recommendations to the Security Council Gives general recommendations

7 Operative Clauses Accepts Notes Reaffirms Regrets Designates Considers Supports Further proclaims

8 The beginning of a resolution… Committee: General Assembly Issue: Nuclear Weapons Proliferation Submitters: United States, United Kingdom, Japan, France, Spain Start off with your committee name followed by a comma (,) “The General Assembly,”….

9 The basics Start with perambulatory clauses and end each phrase with a comma (,) and italicize the first word Italicize the first word in EVERY phrase and number each clause For operative clauses you end each phrase with a semi-colon (;) except for the last phrase which ends with a period (.)
