A: Foreign languages are organized according to concepts that are unfamiliar, abstract, and seem to have no logical explanations Goal: Show how abstract foreign concepts are motivated by familiar, universal human experience, and how the logic of these concepts works.

5 Theoretical Premises: All human beings share universal experiences of embodied existence All human languages have abstract grammatical categories that are structured as metaphors based on human embodied experience We can reconnect students directly to the experiences that structure foreign concepts

Case (space) Can be described in terms of familiar experiences of the location and movement of objects in space Aspect (time) Can be described in terms of familiar properties of matter, as discrete solid object (perfective) vs. fluid substance (imperfective)
