The illustrated History of Canada By: Alex Creef Mrs. Gaspari English 10 11/12/2011 Canada

Images and Culture Culture in Canada The culture in Canada is very similar to American culture but does differ in some ways. Canadian culture is a product of Canada's history and geography and is mainly based around it. Most of Canada's territory was inhabited and developed later than other European colonies in the Americas. pioneers, trappers, and traders were important in the early development of Canadian culture. Primary influences on the Canadian Identity trace back to the arrival of French settlers Official symbols of Canada include the maple leaf, beaver, and the Canadian Horse.

Interesting Facts Canada has the world’s longest coastline at 202,080 km. Canada has twice been invaded by the USA, first in 1775 and then 1812. The Blackberry Smartphone was developed in Ontario, at Research In Motion’s Waterloo offices. Canada is home to about 55 000 different species of insects. Canada holds the record for the most gold medals ever won at the Winter Olympics!!! Famous Canadians include Pamela Anderson, Leonard Cohen, Avril Lavigne, Keanu Reeves and Jim Carrey.

Views changed My views have changed quite a bit after reading this book. I used to think of Canada as some dinky little country that hid away from the world. I now know that they are a established strong country just like us. I did not know that we had gone to war with them and the cold war sounds very brutal. I also thought that Canada was much different than the U.S but this book proved me wrong. We are very much similar and we are great Allies!

Themes The main theme of my book was informational. It was written to tell people all they needed to know about Canada. It is a great book for anyone looking to go there for a trip or just learn about a new country. These themes were presented mostly in a Description way with side notes on key historic events and general facts. The author did a great job at informing!

Fascination of culture I was fascinated by many parts of my book. Mainly it was because of all of the amazing things that have gone on in Canada's past. I was really blown away with what I read about them fighting in several wars and doing a great job in them too. I am also intrigued by the simplicity of their culture and the easy lifestyle that the majority of the Canadians live. I just wish America was like that and would relax and not be so up tight.

Text to world The text in this book definitely relates to the world in many different ways. Mainly because it is about a part of the world and Canada has many relations with other countries. They may not seem just like others but their morals are similar. I think they have an edge on all other countries because of their laid back attitude towards life. This way of thinking accounts for why they are hardly ever at war or in arguments with other countries.

Text to Self This text relates to myself because I think the same way the Canadians do. I can relate to many parts of the book and it really made me enjoy it. I would like to live the Canadian lifestyle with people around it living it too. Hopefully in time people will realize how important it is to just live life by the day and never take it for granted.
