4. * Unlike most other sacraments, Eucharist is not a one-time reception of God’s grace, but a weekly sharing in Christ’s sacrifice for us. Eucharist as a Sacrifice * Jesus’ words “Do this in memory of me” are more because they give us a way to truly be present in our faith the way the apostles were 2000 years ago * the words that need to be stressed are: “this is my body, which is given for you … This cup is.. My blood which is poured out for you” These words speak of sacrifice and indicate that the Last Supper is closely linked with Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. By sharing in the Eucharist we are sharing in Jesus’ sacrifice

6. The Mass * It is on this Divine Sacrifice that the Catholic mass is centered. The mass is divided into two parts, the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Liturgy of the Word (1 st half of mass) Liturgy of the Eucharist (2 nd half of mass) Introductory rite: - Priest walks in procession, Bible held high - Ask forgiveness from God and each other Introductory rite: - Presentation of gifts to altar - Eucharistic Prayer - Invocation of the Spirit: Priest asks God to send the Holy Spirit to make present the Body and Blood of Christ in the bread and wine, through transubstantiation. - Eucharistic Narrative - Intercessions: for Church, global community

7. The First purpose is to receive the body and blood of Christ is to recall His sacrifice on Calvary for us. The second reason to receive Eucharist is to go forth with the strength of Christ to live as he would live.
