2 2 1. 1895 - Origins from the Franciscan School of Theology – the first school at a university level in Herzegovina founded in Mostar 2. 1959 – the Higher Technical School, mechanical engineering branch founded in Mostar 3. 1970/71 - the Higher Technical School became department of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Sarajevo 4. 1971/72 – started departments of the Economics and Law Training 5. 1977 – founded independent university center – Mostar 6. 1992 – 94 WAR UNIVERSITY OF MOSTAR - HISTORY

3 3 Introduction – about University of Mostar - MISSION Student-oriented and research- oriented institution with a fundamental responsibility for the social and cultural development of individuals in preparing their future roles in society. -> prepare students for their professions, and academic training for scientific work -> through research it contributes to the expansion of knowledge to society particularly via the development and implementation of new scientific achievements and technologies.

4 4 Introduction – about University of Mostar - VISION To become modern, authoritative and NO 1 HE institution in the region (Herzegovina, Central Bosnia and South Dalmatia), fully integrated into common European HE area.

5 5 Introduction – about University of Mostar - IDENTITY The only one CROATIAN-speaking university in B&H -> preserving and promoting Croatian cultural identity within B&H and beyond. -> Open and internationally-oriented institution -> Combining the role of developing as an open and tolerant European university with preserving and developing Croatian cultural identity.

6 6 Founders of the University of Mostar are the cantons with the Croatian majority in Federation of B&H: Herzegovina-Neretva, West-Herzegovina, Central Bosnia, Posavina and West Bosnia. 7 7 University of Mostar in brief More than 16000 students at 10 faculties and one Academy of Fine Arts 6 Institutes 1000 teachers and associates From 2005/2006 the University established three Cycles according to Bologna In 2006 the first generation was enrolled in doctoral studies at the Faculty of Philosophy In 2008/2009 the first generation was enrolled in the second cycle

9 9 The University has around 50.000,00 m² of space: Central campus in Mostar New campus in suburb of Mostar Medical faculty and Faculty of Health studies are located in the area of University Clinical Medical Centre Mostar The Academy of fine arts is located in Široki Brijeg (20 km from Mostar) Dislocated studies in Vitez, Kiseljak, Livno, Orašje, Odžak, Jajce and Žepče. 13 13 YEAR 2003. Started self evaluation process – First self- evaluation report at the university level Student evaluation questionnaires at all faculties YEAR 2004. First external evaluation by EUA –Visiting of Advisors Program Team YEAR 2006. Establishment of the Quality assurance office at the university level QUALITY ASSURANCE

14 14 2009 - External evaluation by EUA Substantial development regarding last external evaluation (2004) Quality enhancement as a core value Step-by-step integration including interfaculty co-operation Embedding strategic thinking Adopting European policies (in particular Bologna process) Great potential in the students

15 15 Further steps Accelerate development of joint infrastructure of the University Harmonization of normative acts of the University with a new legal regulative whose defining is still in the process. Work on improving coordination and information at all the levels of the University Work on finding control mechanisms for efficient monitoring of implementing decisions of the management at all levels. Increasing own sources of funds through more intensive cooperation with economy, motivation for applying and participation in BH and international contents for scientific-research projects, through center for technologies transfer and center for lifelong learning.
