The Caleb Project Lesson Four

As we close this series, The Caleb Project, I wanted to focus on Senior Men and inspire them to be great in all they do. We started with Caleb and moved onto to Noah and last lesson we talked at Epaphras and his prayer ministry. Lets finish today looking at Jesus, The Perfect Man. We all have heroes. But today there is a real focus on the superhero. Who is the one who stands heads and shoulders above the rest? We have looked at some men who were great. But we will close looking at the Lord Jesus Christ who is the perfect fulfillment of God! The Word of God reminds us to keep our eyes on Jesus the Author and perfect representative of God. The Bible is all about Jesus. The Bible tells us about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. All of the Bible points to His Arrival. The Old Testament tells of a coming Messiah and the New Testament tells of His arrival and fulfillment of all prophecies and his infilling and blessing to the world for generations to come until His final coming back in power and glory to fulfill the Fathers Promise and Plan. In the three Senior Men we looked at in the series we have seen God in them. Now see God himself in the form of Jesus.

Matthew 28:16-20 New International Version (NIV) The Great Commission 16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Who is your favorite Super Hero? Why? Are you a Super Hero to someone? What do you have to do to become more like Jesus?

See how perfect Jesus is:  Obedient – Noah was good, Jesus is perfect. Obedient even unto death.  Wholehearted - Caleb was good, Jesus is perfect. ( Romans 12: 1 – 2)  Prayerful – Epaphras was good, Jesus is perfect. He prayed until he sweat blood.  We have a Great Commission to fulfill. The work is far from done.

We have a job to do. It is clear that God is not finished with us yet. The great Commission will be the Great Omission if we do not get busy about the work of the Lord. There is so much to be done. Like Caleb we must be ready to claim the promise that God has given us. It is not a literal Promised Land but it is the Spiritual Promise that God has given to each of us. Jesus mentions that there are mansions in heaven and we all have a place there. Until we die our job to tell as many as possible of the great opportunity we all have to know Christ as our Lord and Savior. This is not a task that we can retire from. No matter how long you have been retired you cannot retire from the work of the Lord. There are prayers to offer. There are souls to save. We as The Salvation Army can never stop this war against sin and poverty. I will join William Booth to fight to the very end! Men like Caleb and Noah were an earthly picture of the Son of God! An imperfect picture of the perfect Jesus. There will be a day in the future when we will all be with him in heaven. All of us together and until then lets find our hands busy and our hearts full. Time to MAN UP!
