1. P is For… Current Word: Passion Your Word: Passion I am keeping this word because it is something I genuinely believe in to be an effective teacher. I also agree very much in having individual passions along with content passions and incorporating them. Students respond well when they get to know you personally!

2. I is For… Current Word: Immersion Your Word: Involve them As an agriculture teacher I feel it is extremely important that students get hands on learning and have the ability to “do science”. They have to be doing something every day for me – not just sitting in their seats. I think involvement is key to greater understanding.

3. r is For… Current Word: Rapport Your Word: Rapport I use this tool constantly to try and engage my students. I feel it is important to know where they are at – so they can get to where I am at. I volunteer with outside activities along with my FFA duties, go to student performances, and try to find out about their passions and personalities.

4. a is For… Current Word: Ask and analyze Your Word: Analyze and evaluate I like ask and analyze but I am dropping the ask because I feel I already ask the right questions and am pretty creative. I do have to push myself more to analyze my lessons on a regular basis and evaluate if they are completing their purpose. It is important that they are meeting standards, are relevant to students, continue to keep the audience engaged, and meet the objectives. If my lessons stay the same too long – I know I am probably not analyzing and evaluating enough. Our world is changing so constantly I have to always think about students needs, my criteria, and if the lessons are relevant to the real world.

5. t is For… Current Word: transformation Your Word: Technology I also like transformation – but for me this summer I am changing the word to technology. Our school is moving to a 1:1 status next year and as teachers we have been requested to push our lessons to the next level using technology. We have been taught the SAMR model so my classroom will be in a way transforming as technology becomes a larger part of my lessons this year.

6. e is For… Current Word: enthusiasm Your Word: Enthusiasm I would also keep this word because I think it is critical for every teacher. I try to focus on enthusiasm in all my lessons. If I find that I am lacking in this area I try to check myself and regroup. As I get older, I am finding this a little more challenging to maintain and as I have other tasks besides teaching.
