Related work On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol in Multi-hop Wireless Mobile Networks ( ODMRP ) Mobile Networks and Applications Volume 7, Issue 6 (December 2002) 5

Motivation Reduce the extra cost to add new nodes into the forwarding structure 6

Protocol Join Query packet SrcAddr, i.e., Source ID SeqNumber, i.e., A sequence number maintained by the source, which increments each time the source floods a new Join Query MCastAddr, i.e., Multicast Session ID HopCount, i.e., Hop distance from the source thus far. Initial value is 0 7

Protocol ExtraHop, i.e., the hop distance from the last met group member. Its initial value is 0 and it is reset to 0 once the Join Query arrives at a group member. 8 (1,1)(3,2)(0,0)(2,1) HopCountExtraHop

Protocol 9

When a multicast group member receives a Join Query packet, it first waits for a certain period of time and hopefully to receive more such Join Queries. 10 Query A B C TableC B ExtraHop > A ExtraHop A Unicast Reply B

Protocol 11

Simulation Global Mobile Simulation ( GloMoSim ) propagation range : 250m channel capacity : 2Mbps data packet : 512 bytes simulation : 500 seconds 12

Simulation Packet delivery ratio: The total number of data packets received by all multicast destinations divided by the number of data packets sent from the source multiplies the total number of multicast destinations. Normalized forwarding overhead: The ratio of the total number of data packets transmitted over the number of data packets delivered. 13

Simulation 14

Simulation 15

Simulation 16 D-ODMRP reduces the amount of normalized forwarding overhead by up to 23 percent as compared with ODMRP.

Simulation 17

Conclusion Simulation results show that D-ODMRP can greatly improve the forwarding efficiency as compared with ODMRP. 18
