1 Sustainable Forests Introduction Trees have always been important because we use them for building and furniture. We have to cut down the trees to get wood and wood products. By Emma Taggart

2 Sustainable forest We should always replace the trees that we cut down. A tree takes time to grow. We must manage a program to ensure a continuous supply of trees. By Emma Taggart

3 Environmental Effects The Forest provides homes and food for birds and other wildlife. The trees take carbon dioxide out of the air and put back in oxygen. The tree roots stop soil getting washed away. The trees control the amount of water in the forest. By Emma Taggart

4 Products which can be sourced from the forests Timber for use in building. Wood pulp can be turned into paper and cardboard. Plywood and MDF which is used in furniture. By Emma Taggart

8 Facts on Deforestation Forests cover 31% of the land area on our planet. They provide 1.6 billion people with food fresh water clothing traditional medicine and shelter. Wwf claim that 17% of the Amazon has been lost in the last 50 years. People cut down the forest to get valuable mahogany, gold and oil. By Emma Taggart
