3 Click to edit text Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program WNEP is EFNEP and SNAP-Ed. Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is specifically for low income families with young children and for groups of youth. EFNEP is currently in 7 counties. SNAP-Ed is Nutrition Education associated with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/formerly called food stamps). SNAP-Ed is for families and individuals who are eligible for FoodShare and other federal assistance programs. SNAP-Ed is currently in 67 counties.

4 Click to edit text Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program WNEP collaborates with over 900 local agencies and coalitions in both urban and rural areas. WNEP provides nutrition education to families and individuals with limited resources. In FY15, WNEP brought $10 million in federal funds into the State.

5 Click to edit text Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program 2 in 3 adults are overweight or obese. 77% of adults do not eat the recommended daily amount of fruits and vegetables. 1 in 11 households face hunger or are food insecure. Nutrition education is important. WNEP teaches parents how their families can plan healthy meals. WNEP teaches children and adults about the need to eat fruits and vegetables. WNEP teaches adults to stretch food dollars. The economic cost of obesity in Wisconsin is estimated to be 3.1 billion and increasing. WNEP works with our communities to make the healthy choice the easy choice.

7 Click to edit text Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program WNEP teaches parents to plan healthier meals. HeadStart Parent Groups Job and Life Skills Training WIC Women, Infants and Children 635 parents around the state participated in planning healthy meals. After the lesson, 86% of parents said they would plan meals more often. WNEP works with farmers’ markets and stores that offer incentives on healthy food for FoodShare and WIC users. WNEP collaborates with work training programs. WNEP collaborates with parenting and health education programs for families. WNEP connects with social service agencies.

9 Click to edit text Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program In-School Classrooms After School Programs Following nutrition lessons with youth:  59% of 1,586 parents around the state said their children would be willing to taste new foods,  50% said the children were eating more fruits, and  50% said the children were eating more vegetables. WNEP teaches children to eat fruits and vegetables. WNEP collaborates with school wellness committees. WNEP collaborates with school breakfast, summer meals, and fruit and vegetable programs. WNEP encourages safe walking and biking to school. WNEP promotes healthy vending in schools, fundraisers and concession stands.

11 Click to edit text Wisconsin Nutrition Education Program After participating at a WIC clinic in lessons about using foods obtained through WIC, 742 learners (88%) around the state said they had learned something that made it easier to use WIC foods in meals and snacks. Adults with Disabilities Senior Low-Income Housing Food Pantry Users WNEP teaches adults to stretch food dollars. WNEP connects emergency and non-emergency food programs to increase participating in food assistance programs. WNEP collaborates with local food pantry networks. WNEP works with healthy living and hunger coalitions. WNEP encourages healthy food donations to and offerings at local food pantries.

12 WNEP is an investment in the health of our communities. WNEP families make healthier choices. WNEP learners save on food expenditures.
