Settlement and Resettlement Programs Derive mandate from the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) Principal goals: Settlement Program – promote the successful integration of permanent residents into Canada, while recognizing that integration involves mutual obligations for new immigrants and Canadian society. Resettlement Program – fulfill Canada’s international legal obligations with respect to refugees and affirm Canada’s commitment to international efforts to provide assistance to those in need of resettlement. 2

3. Multiculturalism Program Derives mandate from the Canadian Multiculturalism Act (1988) and Canadian Multiculturalism Policy (1971) and encourages vision of Canada based on equality and mutual respect without regard to race, national or ethnic origin, colour or faith. 3

Priorities: (multiculturalism – projects stream) National priorities (only) have been introduced for first CFP Subsequent CFPs will likely have national and regional priorities For this CFP, priority will be given to proposals that involve one or more of following groups as primary beneficiaries: –youth –youth-at-risk –faith communities/organizations –immigrants Priority will also be given to projects proposals that have focus on one or more of following themes: –citizenship rights and responsibilities –facilitating positive interaction among different cultural, ethnic and religious communities in Canada

7. Service Standards –Submissions will be acknowledged no later than 7 business days after the Call for Proposals Closes –Applicants will be advised of their (and project) eligibility no later than 30 business days from date of CIC’s acknowledgement letter. –Eligible applicants will be informed of funding decision within 90 business days of CIC having advised them of their (and their project) eligibility, or whether any additional processing time will be required. 7
