2 Maryland Science Content Standard Based on research and examples from video technology explain that the repeated division of cells enables organisms to grow and make repairs.

3 Notebook Title:Food Energy Date: 12/23/2015

4 Objective Students will read a scientific journal entry to analyze what food groups affect the body’s metabolism (cellular respiration), hence affecting cell processes (cell division).

5 Reading Go to the media center’s website Find databases –SIRS Locate the journal entry titled –Nutrient Content of the U.S. Food Supply, 1909-2004: A Summary Report

6 Create a Chart In your notebook, create a three column chart with the following headings: –Food Group –What the Body Uses it For –Foods it can be Found In

7 During Reading: Fill in your chart while reading through the article –You will find information that is confusing….no worries…read through it and make as much sense of it as possible –Locate what your body does with the items in each food group –What foods are related to the food group

8 Final Thought: Are Fats Always Bad?? The media will have you believe that all fats are bad for you…. –What are some food groups the media would have you believe are bad? –Do they have any benefits to your body? –What would happen if you eliminated them totally from your diet? –How should you chose your foods?
