1 Coach’s Corner Hello Friends of Hamilton Volleyball, I hope November was a good month for you all with turkey, stuffing, gravy, and maybe even some holiday shopping (I can’t believe it’s almost here!). Our team finished up the season at the end of October, but we are already busy getting ready for our 2010 campaign. Many of the girls are already hitting the gym in their free time and working out with our strength and conditioning coach. In our end of the season individual meetings the girls reflected on this past season and they all agreed that they already missed being around the team. Luckily, we have a few events planned that will get us back together in a social setting. On December 12 we will have our end of the year banquet before everyone leaves for the winter break. Once the girls come back we plan to participate in the community service events we enjoyed from last year. We look forward to growing and improving as a team in the coming months. Please feel free to contact me at anytime if you’re planning on stopping by the campus. I’d love to hear from you! In volleyball, Coach Erin Reding Hamilton College Earns NCSA Top 25 Power Ranking Hamilton College was recently recognized by the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) for exceptional performance both academically and athletically. This year Hamilton was ranked in the top 20 among all Division III programs in the United States. The Collegiate Power Rankings from NCSA are calculated for each college/university at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels by averaging the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup ranking, the NCAA student-athlete graduation rate of each school and the U.S. News & World Report ranking. The collegiate power rankings based off of the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup rating evaluates the strength of NCAA athletic departments, while the U.S. News & World Report rating recognizes institutions of academic excellence. Together these two rankings of academic and athletic excellence combine to form a power ranking of overall performance. Congratulations to all the members of our campus community for helping create an atmosphere of excellence both in the classroom and on the court!

In volleyball, a “side-out” occurs when one team wins a point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve or control of play. Likewise in the war against breast cancer, the Side-Out Foundation aims to support health care professionals in their pursuit of practical solutions for women and men with this disease thus enabling those affected to regain control of their lives and living them to the fullest. The DigPink event promotes breast cancer education through the sport of volleyball by encouraging players and fans to wear pink, distributing educational materials, collecting donations, and focusing on how individuals can help. On October 30 th & 31 st during our final NESCAC competition, Hamilton Volleyball hosted our very first DigPink rally in Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. Dressed up in pink shoelaces and pink t- shirts, the NESCAC volleyball teams showed their support for this worthy cause. Through the hard work of our team and the generosity of our community, we were able to raise breast cancer awareness and support on campus as well as raise almost $650 in the process! We’re very excited about the success we had this year, and are looking forward to hosting another DigPink rally next year!
