1 Tech. Jobs of theTheater (In other words- where the work and money is at.)

2 Starting from the top PRODUCER- chooses the director and sometimes approves casting or technical positions. They are the funds of the production. Their team manages the accounting, coordinates the venue and, often works directly with the show’s the publicity department in advertizing the production. DIRECTOR - overall decision maker of the show. They have the artistic vision for the production. They choose the cast, or hire a casting director to do it for them based on their specifications. They direct the cast in rehearsals- giving them blocking and guiding them through building the characters. Presents designers with their view of the show so the Design Heads and then Technical Crews can create the final product. TECH. DIRECTOR- Oversees all the technical areas of the production. Keeps track of Designers work, maintains theater spaces (stage, workshops, dressing rooms etc.) and all theater equipment. -Works with director to ensure Designers deliver on necessary elements. STAGE MANAGER - Second in command after director. - Manages actors and notes technical work being done. - Keeps a “Prompt book” of the show- a script recording all the directors notes, blocking, technical directions, technical cues and works with Director to communicate their needs to Tech. crews and Design Heads. -Takes notes at each rehearsal and technical production meeting. Sends those notes out for review after each meeting. -Creates rehearsal schedule -notifies actors of announcements and changes.

3 Set Designer Master Carpenter!!! is hired by the director & producer to wait for it… design the settings of the show! They research the time period, location to make sure they are being true to real life. Two important things they create: - ground plans (a bird’s eye view of the stage floor). - front elevations ( a drawing, painting or sketch, of what the set will look like from the front) Designers draw these in a minimized scale (like a blueprint) so they can be build in full scale by the... Works with the Set Designer and builds the settings to the correct specifications. He uses the ground plans and front elevation to build the set pieces to the correct size. He and his BUILD CREW do this! BUILD CREW - works under the Master Carpenter to build the set pieces for the production. They also build or buy furniture, rugs, and any other structures the setting might need. Buys/orders any building materials they might need. RUN CREW- moves the set pieces on and off stage during the show, runs the fly system, and fixes anything that needs to be repaired between shows.

4 Costume DesignerWardrobe Mistress Uses the director’s ideas, they create the costume and “look” for each character. Their look is done into drawings -renderings. Rendering includes: - show title -Characters name -Act & Scene the costume should be worn -!The drawing of the costume!! - a scrap of the fabric that should be used -And any notes the costume build crew might need to sew the costume. *Also oversees the buying, renting of costumes and choosing which costumes go to which character. -Keeps track of all the costumes while the show is performing on stage. -Coordinates the dressers so they can help the actors with their quick-changes into new costumes. -Gets costumes cleaned after each performance. } -Fixes any problems with the costumes, if something tears. COSTUME SHOP SUPERVISOR- Keeps track of the fabric for each costume. Oversees the sewing crew as they build the costumes in the costume shop. Makes sure all costumes are made to Designers specifications. Buys and orders supplies the shop needs.

5 Makeup DesignerHair Designer This individual uses pictures of makeup and drawings of makeup placement to show the director the look for the character. They work with their crew to practice and complete the makeup on the actor. Most often, if the makeup is simple, the actor will do it themselves- this helps them get into character! If the makeup is extensive (Gore Makeup, Animal makeup, body coloring) a person or team will do it for the performer. This individual uses pictures of hairstyles to show the director the hairstyle each character should have. They work with their crew to practice the hairstyles. Wig-master- works with the Hair Designer to order, fit and style wigs on the actors. This person also works with a team to maintain those wigs during a show.

6 PropsPublicity The designer will design props for the director's approval. They will use research images or draw pictures to convey the final look to the director. -They make a chart(“Shift Plot”)of all the props used, who uses them, and where they move to. PROPS MASTER- Builds any props that need to be made with the assistance of their crew. Keeps track of the props during the run of the show. Promotes the Show to the public. Gets the word out. Designer creates mock ups of the *LOGO *POSTER *PROGRAMS *TICKETS They work with Public Companies to advertise together. They also, write and send press releases to radio shows, coordinate making commercials and trailers. They and their team design banners and ads for websites, and work with the cast/crew to use SOCIAL MEDIA to promote the show.

7 SOUND LIGHTS Designer creates a “Cue list” based on the stage direction notes in the script. -Finds samples of sound effects on the list and submits them for director approval. -Works with Stage Manager to be sure each sound lands at the right time. - Their sounds can help intensify the setting, create mood, or solidify actions. Designer impacts the look of the setting or mood of a scene by their lighting in show. Draws a “light plot” for the director showing which areas on the stage will have light and adding an special lights that director needs. Master Electrician/Lighting Crew- Uses the “light plot” to hang and focus lights for the stage. *M.E. - also makes sure all lighting equipment is being used properly and carefully. Board operators- listen to Stage Manager's directives and play sound cues/pull up lights according to the correct time in the show. Only used during tech. week and the performances of the show.
