2 Status of Pilot Courses ENCE 999A - students only –Course completed –Strict schedule –Univ. of Toronto - full grade –RPI - part of grade with a project ENCE 999 - students & professionals –Students finish this month –Most professionals may never finish!

3 Lessons Learned Students –work best on a strict schedule –good to incorporate a class project Professionals –Full semester course to much for most Testing is the hardest part

6 System Changes to be Made -Quizzes: Show student’s answer and correct answer and add customized feedback -Add Back, Next and/or Submit buttons to the bottom of each page -Fix caching issue -Add a general Help component -Open a new browser for links Add “structure” to Course/Module Map

7 Course Availability to Universities Option 1 - Free –CITE will host the course on its server. –Universities will be given the URL for all the modules. –CITE will provide a file with all the exam questions. –No support will be given by CITE for course delivery. Option 2 - Fee of $4,800 –CITE will set up the course and schedule –CITE will coordinate with students on the use of WebCT –CITE will monitor the course and answer questions –CITE will provide university with final grades

8 Availability for Professionals CITE will offer in Fall and Spring Cost is $950 Students receive CEU’s instead of college credit CITE will provide a list on web site of universities offering the course for credit

13 What is the CITE Clearinghouse? An on-line database for transportation professionals. Contains information on courses in three disciplines: Civil Engineering (CE) Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) Public Administration & Policy (PAP)

14 How to Search for Courses Course-Based Search: 1. Discipline (CE, ISE, or PAP) 2. Types of Courses within Discipline Geographic Search: 1. Nation as a Whole 2. Geographic Region Type of Course: 1. Full-semester 2. Distance Learning 3. Short-Courses/Executive Development

15 Goals for the Clearinghouse “One stop shop” for educational & training resources; Satisfy transportation professionals’ needs for interdisciplinary information; Provide individuals with options for how to search for courses.

16 What Researchers Have Done Identified ITS courses throughout the United States; Identified over 300 courses in PAP, CE, and ISE from Maine to Georgia; Gathered information on these courses & keyed in to a database; Developed a prototype webpage.

17 Where We’re Headed Improve the design and presentation of the prototype webpage; Gather information on PAP, ISE, and CE courses throughout the United States, not just from Maine to Georgia; Add a series of discussion forums on topics in transportation; Develop an on-line shopping service for educational & training resources.
