1  Write a short reflection on the following quote. Be sure to not only tie in personal opinion, but facts and previous knowledge. 2 SCHEDULEOBJECTIVES  Finish movie  Bell Ringer  Schedule/Objectives  Notes  Articles of Confederation  Federalists v Anti- Federalists  Pass out Rubric for Constitution project  Students will be able to recall foundational information defining the Articles of Confederation  Students will be able to evaluate the relevance of early political thought and their impact on current political parties

3  What makes starting a Government difficult for the colonies?  The colonies begin to realize that 13 individual colonies will have a difficult time unifying under one single set of laws  Our Founding Fathers began to construct a uniformed government

4  Very first attempt of an American Government  America needed to set up a formal government, and have it be recognized by other foreign governments  This establishes a few things for this new country  Their name!  State’s powers  Not one single government, instead a “league of friendship”  The role of the “central government” is foreign diplomacy  Gave Canada the opportunity to join the cool kids club

5  Even in it’s writing, the Articles of Confederation had a lot of problems  As the war was coming to a close, it was obvious that The Confederation Congress could make “decisions” but could not enforce them  Economic issues became a huge point of conflict  Interstate trade/taxes  Taxing for post-war debt

6  The new states decide, after the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783, that they have to revisit how they unify as one government  After Shay’s Rebellion, the states come together to forge their country  May 25 th, 1787 the Constitutional Convention begins

8  In your notes, write a short reflection of who these groups of people evolved into. Who are these groups of people today?
