Facts about China 1.The Chinese currency is the Yuan (approximately 10 Yuan = £1) 2.The average temperature in April ranges from 8-15°C with average rainfall of about 10-80mm 3.Population of 1.357 Billion 4.China is the fourth largest country in the world (after Russia, Canada, and the U.S.). It has an area of 3,719,275 square miles 5.China is a one party communist state 6.Facebook and Twitter has been banned since 2009 7.The whole of China operates on GMT + 8 hours.

5 Header 3. Itinerary - Departure Departure date: Monday 28 March Meet in the school hall at 11.30am to depart promptly at 12.00pm Departure airport: Heathrow BA39 Departure time: 16:30pm Arrival time: Tuesday 29 March 9.30 Arrival airport: Beijing

6 Header 3. Itinerary – Day 1 Visit the Temple of Heaven and the Panda Colony at the Zoo en-route.

8 Header 3. Itinerary – Day 2 Depart the hotel after breakfast for a full day of visits to the Great Wall of China, with a stop en-route to the Jade Factory. Further visits today to include the Summer Palace and a Pearl Factory. Evening dinner and the Kung Fu show.

9 Header 3. Itinerary – Day 3 Depart the hotel after breakfast for a full day of visits to the Lhama and Confucius Temples. Afternoon visits today to include shopping at Silk Alley and the Friendship store. Evening dinner and the Chinese Acrobat Show.

10 Header 3. Itinerary – Day 4 Check out of hotel rooms. After breakfast, the group will depart for a full day of visits to Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City and Imperial Palace; lunch will be in the Hutongs). In the afternoon, the group will visit the Olympic Park to view the Bird’s Nest. Transfer to the station for the overnight train to Xian in first class sleepers.

11 Header 3. Itinerary – Day 5 Arrive in Xian and transfer to the hotel for breakfast. Depart the hotel after breakfast for a full day visit to the Huaqing Hot Springs and the Terracotta Warriors (with Factory Shop visit en-route). A cookery session will be included today.

13 Header 3. Itinerary – Day 6 Depart the hotel after breakfast for a full day’s visits to The Wild Goose Pagoda and Ancient City Walls, including the Xian City Walls Ceremony. In the afternoon, the group will visit a High School, subject to school holiday dates in China. In the evening dinner with the Tang Dynasty Show.

14 Header 3. Itinerary – Day 7 Check-out of the hotel after breakfast and depart for a morning visit to the Xian countryside located in Hu County in Donghan Village, about one hour from the city. Afternoon flight from Xian to Shanghai. Transfer to our hotel in Shanghai.

16 Header 3. Itinerary – Day 8 Depart the hotel after breakfast for full day guided tour of Shanghai including the TV (Pearl) Tower, Bund, Jade Buddha Temple and The Old City.

17 Header 3. Itinerary – Day 9 Depart the hotel after breakfast for a full day of visits to Suzhou, visiting the Humble Administrator’s Garden, Boat Trip on Grand Canal and the Silk Factory.

Health - Vaccinations Confirm primary courses and boosters are up to date as recommended for life in Britain - including for example, vaccines required for occupational risk of exposure, lifestyle risks and underlying medical conditions.recommended for life in Britain Courses or boosters usually advised: Hepatitis A. Other vaccines to consider: Cholera; Hepatitis B; Japanese Encephalitis; Rabies; Tetanus; Tick- borne Encephalitis; Typhoid. 24 Header 6. Visas Your daughter will need her own passport with six months’ validity; passports must not expire until after 9 October 2016. Passports must be handed in on Monday 25 January to Mrs Skelley in S010, together with: 1.Copies of both parents’ passports/death certificate if applicable. 2.Visa application form - one passport photograph of your daughter must be stuck to the top right hand side of the visa form marked photo. 3.Copy of your daughter’s long birth certificate. 4.A letter with both parents’ signatures confirming that they give authorisation for their daughter to obtain a visa and to attend the trip to China. In the case of separated parents, a signature of both biological parents is required. If this is not possible, the adoptive parent may sign the form but an adoption certificate must be provided. Parents who are separated and who have sole guardianship will have to provide proof in writing. (We are providing you with a standard letter for you to sign; a copy of this will be on the website.)

25 Header 7. Timeline If you haven’t already provided a copy of your daughter’s passport, please can you ensure that this is done immediately – thank you. This should be posted in the trips post box or handed into Mrs Skelley in S010. 15 th December – Final deposit to be paid 25 th January – Completed Visa with your daughters passport (please scan a copy of your visa to Mrs Skelley to check before if you need to)
