2 ASIM Why Are Cells So Small? Lab What did you learn from the lab about cell size and cell survival? Why do you think the “Papa Cells” had a highest percentage of cytoplasm death? So what are some reasons cells divide? 1.Larger cells place more demand on their DNA. 2.SA:V ratio – As volume increases, cells can’t transport enough nutrients across the cell membrane.

3 The process by which a cell divides into two new (identical) daughter cells. Happens before cells get too large to survive The cell must make a copy of (“replicate”) all of its DNA so each daughter cell will have a complete set. Each daughter cell also has a larger SA:V ratio.
