The formula for finding the volume of a sphere is V=4/3r 3. Calculate the surface area and the volume for the baseball and basketball. Then write the ratio of surface are to volume for each. Baseball r = 3.6 cm Basketball r = 12.2 cm

3 Limits to Cell Size  The larger a cell becomes, the more demands the cell places on its DNA.  The larger a cell grows the less efficient in moving nutrients and waste materials across its cell membrane.

5 Exchanging Materials  Nutrients and wastes pass through cell membrane  The greater surface area the more materials that can pass  Key is surface area to volume.
