All forms require Parent and Student Signatures Please BUBBLE your choices in pencil So mistakes can be corrected No Markers – they bleed through the paper Try not to wrinkle the form Students not returning their forms on time will lose elective preference and will be placed in courses based on availability 4

Counselors have met with 8th graders at each feeder school. Counselors will return on the dates listed below to collect and review completed forms Currie – April 15th CT – April 16th Utt – April 20th Pioneer – April 21st Orchard Hills – April 22nd 5

Course lists will be sent to students in early May Challenge process ends May 30th Response to challenge sent early June FINAL course list available at registration in August (very few changes at this time) 6

7 Challenge Process Must Meet Minimum pre-requisites to qualify for change in placement (see course catalog) All Challenges due by May 30th Both Paper AND Electronic Form required Paper form can be printed from Beckman website Electronic form will be on our website Incomplete forms will not be accepted Response to Challenge will be sent via Paper forms can be scanned and ed to

8 Schedule Changes Electives Only (add/Drop)
“I would like a different elective” To ensure proper placement, all requests for elective changes are due May 30th Add/Drop Form will be available online Teacher requests will NOT be granted A change in elective will NOT utilize a challenge form. A Challenge form is utilized ONLY to move to a higher level than originally recommended.

English – 4 years Math – 2 years (minimum Geometry) Science – 3 years (Life and Physical) Social Science – 3 years (World, US, Gov/Econ) World Language – 2 years (same language) VPA – 1 year (various options) PE – Two years 9

10 COURSE SELECTION UC A – G Requirements
“To be considered for admission, you must complete 15 yearlong approved high school courses with a grade of C or better — at least 11 of them prior to your senior year.” “D’s…” 10

11 Credits Unlike middle school, in High School you MUST earn 230 credits and meet several graduation requirements in order to Graduate. Students who do not earn enough credits or meet requirements DO NOT GRADUATE! The grades/credits you EARN go on a permanent record that is used for college applications. 11

Your other classes are “locked in” for A-G purposes. 12

3 years of an elective in the same field Graphics Design 1, 2, and 3 Dramatic Production, Digital Filmmaking, Independent Film Projects Principles of Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science AP Exploration of Art, Vis Imagery (10th), Adv. Vis Imagery, Studio Art AP Pathways are NOT a requirement. 13

14 Ancient Civ H vs. Human Geo AP
Preparation for AP World History Honors Level Course Content/Rigor AP Level Course Content/Rigor A-G “A” Credit No college credit available Passing the AP Exam may offer students the potential for college credit This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to the content that is included in the AP World History course, including an exploration of historical themes, global forces, and specific events from ancient Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, India, the Americas and China as a part of modern history. In additional to learning fundamental historical thinking and writing skills, students will be taught and are expected to engage in class discussions, debates, and presentations in preparation for future success. The focus of this course is to introduce students to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth’s surface. Students will learn to employ spatial concepts and landscape analysis to examine human socioeconomic organization and its environmental consequences. Students will also learn about the methods and tools geographers use in their research and applications.

21 Questions/Meeting requests
Students will have time for specific course selection questions during registration visits on the dates noted in previous slides. Please direct placement questions or meeting requests to the recommending teacher or your current school counselor. We do not know your students yet and, therefore, cannot place them accurately.
