4 The Wisdom of Confucius (p.89)
Confucius was born in _____ B.C. to a noble but poor family. Confucius hoped to become a ________ for a local ruler. For years he wandered from court to court talking to rulers about how to ________. Unable to find a position he became a _________.

5 Five Relationships (p.89)
Confucius taught that ________ resulted when people accepted their place in society. He stressed five key relationships. Father to son. Elder to younger brother Husband to wife Ruler to subject Friend to friend __________ was the only equal relationship.

6 Confucius believed that everyone had duties and responsibilities in these relationships. For example: rulers should care for their subjects and subjects should obey their rulers. Confucius believed that respect in relationships would bring order and stability to China.

7 Filial piety Above all Confucius placed respect for parents (filial piety) as the most important. Other Confucian values included honesty, hard work and concern for others. “Do not do on to others,” he declared, what you do not wish yourself”
