2. Colombia Columbia is located in South America on the northwest region. It is the only country in that region that has coast on the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean. It share borders with Venezuela, Brazil, Peru and Ecuador. The countries population is over 45 million people and its capital is Bogota.

4. Coffee Coffee was introduced to Columbia in the 1800s and now produces 12% of the world’s coffee.

5. ● Coal ● Colombia is home to the world’s largest open cast coalmine on the peninsula of La Guajira. There it produces almost 5 million tons of coal each year which makes it the world’s fifth largest coal producer.

6. ● Bananas ● Bananas are the third most produced agricultural product in Colombia. The bananas are produced on large plantation fields and over 90% of the bananas produced are exported to other countries.

7. ● Cattleya trianae ● The Cattleya trianae is Columbia’s National Flower. The species grows at 1500 to 2000 feet above sea level. It is currently an endangered due to habitat destruction though.

8. ● Emeralds ● Colombian emeralds are known for their transparency, crystallization, and fire. Emeralds range from a light yellowish greenish to a dark bluish green. These emeralds are not only beautiful but believed to increase intelligence, protect marriages, and ease childbirth.

10. ● Religion ● Colombia has religious freedom. Although the Roman Catholic Church is the state church.

11. ● Tejo ● Tejo is the National Sport of Colombia.

12. ● Spanish is the official language of Colombia.

13. ● Education Education for kids begins when they are 5 and kids are expected to complete school up to the 11 th grade as a basic goal. Some students will then attend a university for an average time of five years.

15. ● Weather The weather can affect the production of many crops in many ways. Rather it be from flooding, heat, extreme storms, or drought. But they all have consequences in the economy like prices rising.
