2 Why Implement New Math Curriculum? Alignment to the MA 2011 Math Standards Math Achievement /need to better prepare for middle and high school

4 Supports & Resources Print and online curriculum provided to all teachers Student workbooks provided for all grade levels Online accounts provided for all teachers that include video tutorials of every lesson Voluntary 2 day PD session provided during the summer to all teachers who were interested in attending Full Day training with Eureka trainers scheduled for Nov. 2nd A minimum of 2 half-day PD sessions set aside for collaborative planning Monthly curriculum meetings dedicated to collaborative planning Curriculum Committee provided “Quick View” module overview for staff New manipulative kits or hands-on materials recommended by curriculum committee were provided to every teacher in all grade levels

Maintain Communication with Your Child’s Teacher Encourage your child to: Talk and explain their answers Show their thinking (pictures, number lines, models) Check their work Keep on going and don’t give up! 6 Math Lesson Components Fluency practice (5-10 mins) 3 Goals for Fluency exercises: Maintenance (practice skills previously learned), Preparation (targeted practice for the current lesson), Anticipation(practice of skills needed for upcoming lessons) Problem application (10 mins) Time for students to solve a mathematical problem guided by the teacher (modeling, guided practice, independent practice) Concept Development (30 mins) Includes both Teacher led component of the lesson and independent student practice Student Debrief (10 min) Student reflection and active processing of the day’s lesson
