Presentation on theme: "The End of All Revelation Hebrews 1:1-2. How God Spoke Before Various ways (Heb. 1:1-2) – Directly to patriarchs Adam (Gen. 2:15-16) Noah (Gen. 6:14;"— Presentation transcript:

The End of All Revelation Hebrews 1:1-2

How God Spoke Before Various ways (Heb. 1:1-2) – Directly to patriarchs Adam (Gen. 2:15-16) Noah (Gen. 6:14; 9:6) Abraham (Gen. 17:10) – To Israel through Moses (Exod. 20) – Prophets – Gentiles (Jonah 1:1-2; 3:1-10)

How God Speaks Now Through His Son (Heb. 1:1-2) – A new message: true forgiveness (Heb. 10:4) – To fulfill, not destroy (Matt. 5:17) – New covenant (Heb. 8:13) – His death necessary (Heb. 9:16-17)

How God Speaks Now Continued through chosen apostles – Eleven (Matt. 28:18-20) – Paul (Acts 9:15) Guided by Holy Spirit (John 14, 15, 16) 1.Reminded of time with Jesus 2.Given new revelation 3.Given miracles (mentioned later) Eyewitness + Holy Spirit = ALL TRUTH

Can We Change God’s Word? Do not add to/take away from (Rev. 22:18-19) A principle for all of God’s word – Law of Moses (Deut. 12:32) – Time of prophets (Proverbs 30:5) – New Testament (Galatians 1:6-9) Joseph Smith’s “revelation” in 1823 – Does not fit Hebrews 1 – how God speaks – Fits Galatians 1 – “another gospel”

“Prophecies will pass away” Things that will abide (I Cor. 13:13) Things that will end (I Cor. 13:8-12) “Perfect” End of time or end of revelation? – Faith, hope, love will abide after gifts cease – Faith & hope not necessary after end of time – “Perfect” is completion of revelation

“Seeing in the mirror dimly” Prophecies of Christ, the church, forgiveness, and inclusion of the Gentiles – dim images Revelation of mystery – face to face – Hidden then, revealed now (Eph. 3:1-12) – Made fully known by apostles (Col. 1:25) – One for all delivered (Jude 1:3) – Mystery revealed (I Tim. 3:16-17)

Conclusion We have all we need (II Peter 1:3) If revelation has ended: – Modern prophets and their “signs” are false – Any new religious text is a sinful addition – We are saved by the same method Closing verse (Romans 16:25-27)
