1 Elastin By: Connor D

2 Elastin’s Amino Acid Sequence
Glycine Valine Alanine Proline

3 Elastin’s Structure

4 What does Elastin do? It is a protein in connective tissue and allows many tissues in the body to resume their shape after stretching or contracting. It helps skin return to it’s original position after pinching or poking; it is also produced by skin

5 Is Elastin used by any other organism?
yes; all mammals

6 Elastin photos:

7 Why I chose this protein:
It sounded somewhat familiar to me because of “elastic” so I hoped to find a similarity between the two

8 What makes this protein significant/special
Elastin proteins decrease over time which leads to wrinkles, puffiness, under eye darkness(circles). It is also responsible for the flexibility of skin; there are creams that can be used to reduce wrinkles etc… that help balance the skin with elastin like substances
