1 Heat as a By-Product: A log burns in a campfire, and chemical energy is changed to light and heat. This energy conversion is desired in a campfire. Heat is often the product of an energy conversion. Sometimes it is desirable. Sometimes it’s not. 1.One common energy transfer that produces heat occurs when objects rub against each other. Quickly rub your hands together several times. What do you notice? Explain The energy transfer involved. 2. The function of motor oil in a car is to keep moving parts from rubbing against each other. In terms of energy conversion, why would you want the parts to not rub against each other? 3.When making steel, the molten steels is cooled by water. The steel cools, but the water is now hot. Why are cooling ponds needed for this water? Hint: What would Happen if the water was released into a lake or river while it was still warm?

2 What we did in class today: Monday November 12, 2012 Collected PACE lab reports Handed back graded lab reports Reviewed the previous handouts they’ve been given that they should be using to review for the EOC in January. Related their PACE project to the real world and how this semester’s terms apply.
