2 The “C” Word College – is a general term I use, meaning “what you plan to do after you graduate high school.” I use it because I am too lazy to say: ▫4 Year College or University ▫ 2 Year Community College ▫2 year to 6 week Vocational Training ▫Military ▫Apprenticeship ▫Career I am extremely interested in EVERYONES plan for post- secondary. AND the following information is important for ALL paths!

5 GPA The “average” of all of you grades. ▫See page 5 of your Tracker. Grades matter to colleges, employers, and insurance companies. It is a reflection of how well you complete the tasks given to you. Studies are now showing that GPA is a better predictor of how well someone will do in college, rather than ACT scores.

6 Class Rank Class rank is completely based off of GPA. All students in graduating class are listed in order of highest to lowest GPAs. ▫Valedictorian ▫Salutatorian

7 Absences Absences are recorded for each year. Employers generally are interested in this piece of information.

8 Test Scores You could take the ACT your Junior year. You can take the test multiple times. Your ACT score can get you scholarships. Your ACT score can make it so you don’t have to take placement tests. The best way to prepare for the ACT is to stay active in your classes ALL through high school.

9 Grades Matter Your grades turn into you GPA. Your GPA can determine the amount of money a college will offer you.

10 Courses Matter The courses you take now, can help you in college. ▫Chemistry ▫ALEKS ▫Career Related Courses

11 Involvement How involved you are in teams, clubs, and work can make a difference with opportunities, scholarships, and networking.
