2 Dial-up I. Requires a telephone modem. II. 56k modem is standard, transfers data at 56 kbps. III. Utilizes a “twisted pair” cable to connect to the internet. IV. Normally costs around $20.00. V. Dial-up is cheaper, however it occupies the phone lines and is very prone to interruptions.

3 Digital Subscriber Line I. Both DSL and Dial-up connects to the internet via phone jack. II. DSL splits the connection enabling simultaneous phone and internet use. III. DSL generally costs around $30.00 a month. IV. DSL transfers data at a rate of 1.5 mbps. V. DSL is much more reliable because it cannot be interrupted by phone calls. VI. The DSL modem is constantly active

4 Cable I. Requires a cable modem. II. Relies on the television cables, also known as a coaxial cables. III. Transfers data at around 10 mbps. IV. Cable modem is constantly active. V. However, there is only one cable segment, the more users, the slower the connection. VI. Cable generally costs $60.00-$250.00
