14 Reading Tier II Indicator Indicator 1.8: All junior high students will meet or exceed standards and be identified as proficient on the MEAP tests in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. Reading Tier II Indicator: Increase the number of students who score at proficient or higher in Reading. S.M.A.R.T. Goal: The percentage of Davis 7 th, 8 th and 9 th grade students scoring proficient or higher in Reading will increase as measured by the school-wide expository assessment from ____% to _____%.

17 Reading Tier II Indicator 8 th Grade U.S. History Based on a variety of reading assessments, the 8 th grade teachers have identified several deficiencies in comprehension of informational text: MEAP – Generalizations, Identifying Main Ideas Explore Test – Identifying Main Ideas, Generalizations, Locating Supporting Evidence, Vocabulary School-wide Expository Test – Identifying Main Ideas, Inference, Accessing Prior Knowledge, Metacognition, Vocabulary, Cause and Effect

18 Reading Tier II Indicator 9 th Grade World Histriry Based on a variety of reading assessments, the 9 th grade teachers have identified several deficiencies in comprehension of informational text: –MME – Generalizations, Identifying Main Ideas, Inference –Explore Test – Identifying Main Ideas, Generalizations, Locating Supporting Evidence, Vocabulary –School-wide Expository Test – Inference, Chronological Order, Cause and Effect, Identifying Main Ideas.

20 Reaching Higher By 2014, all students in the Utica Community Schools will meet or exceed proficiency standards in English language arts (reading and writing), math, science, social studies, fine arts and career and technical education, as defined by national, state and UCS standards.

23 7 th Grade Writing S.M.A.R.T. Goal Percentage of 7 th grade students who achieve a score of 4 (out of a 6 point scale) or higher on the HRW Online Expository Essay assessment will increase from __% to __% by June 2011.

28 Tier II StrategiesPersons Responsible Implementations, Resources, Start and End Dates Progress Monitoring All science teachers will use the 6+1 writing rubric to assess the students’ written lab report conclusions. Persons Responsible: Science Teachers Resources: 6+1 rubric Sept. 7, 2010-June 17, 2010 All students will complete one written lab report conclusion per marking period. All science teachers will review and demonstrate multiple choice test taking strategies to interpret tables, charts, and graphs. Persons Responsible: Science Teachers Resources: MEAP Review and ACT Review Packets Sept. 7, 2010-June 17, 2010 All teachers will include interpreting tables, charts, and graphs on all quizzes and test. Also use sample questions as bell ringers. All science teachers will model and demonstrate reading strategies mini lessons to help the students understand the textbook.
