1 Formal Lab Report SEED GERMINATION LAB

2 Seed Germination Seed germination is the early growth stage of the a seed (plant baby). When seeds germinate, they absorb water which causes food-storing tissues to swell and crack open the seed coat. The young root grows through the cracked seed coat.

3 Seed Germination Corn (monocot) Foliage leaves Young shoot
The corn seedling is a monocot in which the shoot grows directly upward, protected by its sheath. Germinating seed Primary root Corn (monocot)

4 Seed Germination Bean (dicot) Foliage leaves Young shoot Cotyledons
Seed coat The garden bean is a dicot in which the cotyledons emerge aboveground. Primary root Germinating seed Bean (dicot)

6 Today you are going to come up with a title and do research and write a couple paragraphs of background research In this emperimant you are going to determine the effect of various concentrations of salt water on seed germination. Title – Describes the investigative question, including you independent and dependent variables Background information Describes scientific concepts and clearly defines scientific terms that are relevant to the investigation

7 Background Information
This section should be written in paragraph form. This section should include descriptions of any relevant scientific concepts, theories &/or laws, and definitions of all relevant scientific terms. The independent and dependent variable should also be clearly defined and described in this section. The possible relationship between the independent and dependent variable should be identified and explanation of the possible relationship between these two variables. USING MLA FORMAT YOU WILL NEED TO CITE YOUR SOURCES IN A BIBLIOGRAPHY SECTION AT THE END OF YOUR LAB REPORT. You should have in text citations/ parenthetical citations (e.g. (Authors last name, page number))

8 Background Information
Things to consider: Define key vocabulary words Define Seed Germination Explain what factors affect seed germination Describe any living organism or chemicals in your experiment Environment the radish plant likes to grow in. The effect salt might have on plants Identify why you experiment is interesting and/ or important How much salt water is in the oceans? And are there places where ocean water floods agriculture land. How would flooded food crops affect people?
