. TEKS Kinder: Explain appropriate water safety rules such as never swim alone, never run around pools, look before you jump, enter feet first, and know the role of the lifeguard. (K.5D) Explain appropriate reactions during emergencies in physical activities such as staying calm, following adult directions, and getting help. 3rd Grade: Identify and apply safety precautions when walking, jogging, and skating in the community such as using sidewalks, walking on the left side of the street when facing traffic, wearing lights/reflective clothing, and be considerate of other pedestrians. (3.5C) Identify exercise precautions such as awareness of temperature and weather conditions and need for warm-up and cool-down activities. (3.5D) 4th Grade: Use equipment safely and properly. Panic - to not think realistically Calm - to stay relaxed Protection - to prevent from harm Harmful effects – causing injury or damage to the body Sunscreen – a lotion that contains substances (SPF) to prevent sunburn or skin cancer Sun block – a lotion that prevents tanning as well as sunburns Injury - getting hurt Lifeguard - a person in charge of safety at a pool, lake, or ocean K5

Reflective - light, visible, glow-in-dark clothing Hand signals - use of the arms and hands to allow others to determine the direction of travel Crosswalk - a safe place to cross the street Risk - the possibility of danger Strain - to injure or push to the limit of injury Hazard - a danger Prevent - to stop from doing Obey - follow the rules K5

11 Sun Facts Supports life on Earth Helps your body produce Vitamin D
Too much exposure may cause sunburn. The sun gives us vitamin D so we can absorb calcium into our body for strong bones. Staying in the sun too long may cause your skin to turn red and burn. This is called a sunburn. Sunburns increase your chance of getting wrinkly when you get older. They may also lead to skin cancer when you are an adult. Gives off dangerous ultraviolet rays 1

clothes Use sunscreen with a SPF 30 or greater. (SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor.) Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours. Apply sunscreen all over your body even on the top of your ears and the part in your hair. Your body loses water when you sweat. Drink water and stay hydrated.
