August 22: Integers & Absolute Value

1.1 Warmup #1-3 Evaluate each expression using the order of operations. 1. 2. 3.

Integers The integers are: positive and negative whole numbers; and zero (which is a whole number but neither positive nor negative). Examples: 72 0 –6 – 325 Non-examples: – 3.15 ½ π 5,260.8

Integers Integers are represented in math by using the number line that extends right and left from 0. Here are some integers on the number line:

Comparing Integers When you compare two integers, the lesser (smaller) number is to the left, and the greater (larger) number is to the right. For example, –3 is less than 35. This might surprise you: – 39 is less than – 3.

Comparing Integers Try it yourself. Fill in the blanks with. *Reminder: < means “is less than” > means “is greater than”

Comparing Integers Try it yourself. Rewrite these integers in order from least to greatest:

Absolute Value

Absolute Value AND Comparing Integers Try it yourself. Put the following values in order from least to greatest.
