1. Micaela Briscoe I am standing as a candidate for the Bristol Youth Select Committee because… I believe that the young people in Bristol’s schools are not consulted enough on issues that affect and are of concern to them. For this reason, I would like to work on their behalf to challenge some of the negative perceptions of young people, of which I am one. I know I am a suitable person to be a candidate for the Bristol City Youth Council because I care about the voice of every young person in Bristol. I know that I can offer you a hard-working, enthusiastic student who wants to improve the prospects for the young people of Bristol. I am a positive and objective thinker, who sets a goal and sees the process through to the end. Due to this, I believe I can b a positive influence to my fellow candidates, and a person that can be relied upon. This can be witnessed through my participation in Oldfield schools Student Council for the last five years, and in my current role as the Deputy Head of House. I also have experience in public speaking and debating as I am an active member of Oldfield schools Public Speaking team, and I have participated in a variety of debates and public speaking competitions both locally and within the South West region. Although this is my main aim, I am also aware of the other needs of young people such as their role in society, and the resources available to them in order to make the right decisions. I would also like to develop a radio programme so young people can air their opinions – inviting the appropriate people to interview and question, as well as experts to inform young people about topics of interest to them.
