Geometry Lesson Spatial Sense Lesson QUIZ Where can we find these shapes in our environment? Introduction and Directions Introduction and Directions

Grade Level: Kindergarten Objectives: Show students that geometry is everywhere, how to explain where objects (shapes) are in relation to other shapes, show the importance that geometry plays in everyday life, and make sure the students are successful in interpreting and recognizing object size and shape in the classroom, and their environment. The Geometry and Spatial Sense interactive activity is designed for the student to participate in two lessons, and then prove what they have learned through a quiz at the end. First complete that geometry lesson, and then continue on to the Spatial Sense lesson. Finally, complete the quiz. Parents and teachers are strongly recommended to work with their student on this, to help them read through the lessons. Home

SHAPES in our environment

CIRCLE SHAPES in two (2) dimension TRIANGLE A square, is a shape that has four sides of equal length. A circle is a shape that is made up of a curved line, with no straight lines or points. A triangle, is a shape with three straight lines, and has three points.

OVAL (shapes in two dimension continued) An oval, is an object having the general shape of an egg. A rectangle, is an object with four sides, where two of the sides are the equal, and the other two sides are equal. RECTANGLEHEXAGON A hexagon, is an object that has six sides.

SHAPES in three (3) dimension A sphere, is an object with a round body, that has a shape like a ball. SPHERECYLINDERCUBE A cylinder, is a surface connected by two circles at the top and bottom. A square, is an objected made up of 6 equal squares connected together. Home

Spatial Sense

The location of shapes can be described by telling where they are compared to other shapes (objects) using these spatial sense words. Spatial Sense of Shapes Up Down Over Under Bottom Top Inside Outside Right side up Upside down

UP and DOWN Here is an example of a student putting her hand up. Up, refers to something above you, so she put her hand up, or above her. Here is an example of a student putting something down. Down, means something below you, so she is putting the papers down, or below her. OVER and UNDER Here is an example of a student, whose legs are under the table. Under, refers to an object that is below something else. Here is an example of a cheeseburger, where the bun is over the meat. Over, refers to something that is above something else.

Bottom and Top Inside and Outside In this example of a stack of books, we can locate which book is on the top and which one is on the bottom. The purple book is on the bottom, and the green book is on the top. In this example, we can describe where the children are, by saying which one is inside and which one is outside. The girl is standing outside the house, and the boy is coloring inside the house.
