WAICU Educational Technology Consortium, Inc. (ETC) History and Structure Current Status – Lessons Learned Where do we go from here Questions

WAICU ETC History and Structure WAICU is the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities Discussions began in 2002 Question was; could WAICU members successfully work together to purchase, train, and implement a common higher education administrative system? If so, how, with who, and when? Sneak peak – the answer is YES! 2004 RFP sent to Datatel, Jenzabar, People Soft, and SCT Banner People Soft did not respond due to Oracle takeover battle

WAICU ETC History and Structure “The program that will never work” July 1, 2005 incorporated as a 501(c)(3) Three (3) members initially – choose Jenzabar EX Currently ten (10) members Each member has a seat on the board – one member one vote WAICU ETC is master contract holder Members sign end-user agreement Member retains right to license

WAICU ETC Current Status – Lessons Learned Determined it was not about the technology – all three vendor offerings met our needs Leadership from President, CFO, and CIO critical to success Two heads are better than one (or is it misery loves company) Cost savings are significant Treated as one large university with multiple campus locations New business to administrative system vendor needed to start a consortium

WAICU ETC Current Status – Lessons Learned Sharing best practices User group meetings are invaluable Cost savings opportunity for shared services/back office functions has great potential if members are willing

WAICU ETC Where Do We Go From Here WAICU ETC is working on consortia agreements with other administrative system vendors Back office shared resources National model At a minimum WAICU ETC model can be duplicated Multi-state model – if vendors will cooperate Anything is possible As long as it is legal, ethical, and you are willing to pay for it

WAICU ETC Where Do We Go From Here Bill Schultz Executive Director – WAICU ETC bill.schultz@waicu.org 608-695-1594 Rod Opsal Senior Vice President – WAICU Secretary/Treasurer WAICU ETC rod.opsal@waicu.org 608-256-7761 x226
