1 A.M. & P.M. Kindergarten Back to School Night Mrs. Wagner & Ms. Hamilton

2 Ms. Hamilton Council Rock and Pennsylvania State University Graduate Taught First Grade for 2 years and Kindergarten for 1 year Loves reading on the beach and cooking Taught Kindergarten for 15 years (6 at Hillcrest) All my children attended Richboro Elementary School Love to be outside and work in my garden Mrs. Wagner

3 Homework will be given out on Monday and due back on Friday, unless we have off. There is a homework book that will go home and the children will be expected to complete it with a little help. If they need too much help let us know.

4 Kid Writing Kid Writing Kid Writing is when the kids write sentences to go with a picture. It focuses on letter formation and phonics in the context of writing. Kid Writing occurs twice a week for about 45 minutes. The key is to not tell the students how to write, but to help them sound out words until they feel confident writing independently. Please sign up if you would like to come into the classroom and help!

5 Centers Centers are used after the kids are done kid writing. We play school games on the computer. We practice writing our letters, numbers, and sentences. Here we write sight words.

6 Math in Kindergarten First Quarter: -Position/location -Sorting/Attributes -Measurement Second Quarter: -Patterns -Comparing numbers to 10 Third Quarter: -Numbers (teens & hundreds chart) -Addition and Subtraction Forth Quarter: -Making Numbers -Geometry -Graphs

7 Literacy in Kindergarten Phonemic Awareness: Rhyme- supplying a rhyming word Beginning sounds Phoneme Blending & Segmenting (cat) c/a/t Familiarity with Print Identifying Capital and Lower Case Letters Recognizing Sight Words (sent home sight words & also on website) Letter-Sound Association Writing their first and last name correctly

8 Birthdays In our classrooms every birthday is very special. If you would like to celebrate a birthday or summer birthday please let me know. We will celebrate all summer birthdays at the end of the school year! You are more then welcome to bring in a non-edible treat (pencils, stickers, erasers..etc.) for your child and the class. Please do not send in birthday invitations to be handed out, it is a school policy.

9 4 th Grade Buddies We get to meet and enjoy doing projects and fun activities with our upper grade friends!

10 8th Grade Volunteers 8th Graders from Richboro Middle School come to our class four times throughout the year and help us complete a project and it teaches the 8th graders about volunteering.

11 Apple Day Celebration On Friday, September 25th we will celebrate Johnny Appleseed and do some fun activities with apples as our theme! We need 5 volunteers, so please sign up if you would like to help. We will provide the activities!

12 Turkey in Disguise Around thanksgiving we will send home a turkey and you and your child can have fun disguising them as something else. Students will share when they return back to school!

13 Thanksgiving Play & Feast The students will prepare a thanksgiving play and perform songs on stage. Afterwards we will have a feast in the cafeteria! We will be asking for food and drink contributions when this date gets closer.

14 Halloween Parade & Party On Friday Oct. 30 th we all dress up in our costumes and parade into the other grade level classrooms and around our small playground for parents to see!

15 100 th Day! On the 100 th day of school, we plan a day full of fun activities that involve the number 100! We would love to have 5 volunteers come on that day! This will be sometime in February depending on snow days

17 PRETZEL SALE! We again are offering a PRE-PAY program You can now pre-pay for our Thursday pretzel sales starting September 10 th Here is how it works:  Send in the amount due, (check the scale on the link provided on the home page) in an envelope marked with your child’s name and the name of the homeroom teacher (50 cents per pretzel for all of the Thursdays from September 10 th through June 9 th. (30 pretzels $17)

This should help with taking days off for work. Thanks!
