3 1.1 STEM EDUCATION PROGRAMS VISION: All students are prepared to use science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to: make knowledgeable choices, implement processes and to build and sustain the technological competencies needed to enable human wellbeing.

4 1.2 STEM EDUCATION PROGRAMS MISSION: Collaborate to align powerful teaching and learning resources to maximize the impact of higher education on STEM students. Programs of study are formulated to: educate professionals that address the economic and security needs of the society with technological competence, support continuous improvement needed to sustain a higher level of technological competence throughout long professional careers and to execute use-inspired research and development.

5 2.0 ASU’s POLYTECHNIC campus Today’s Polytechnic University combines a legacy of, and focus on technological problem solving with special emphasis on: –an excellent general education; –Special focus on applied science-based education; –professional and workforce preparation; and, –use-inspired research and development.

6 2.1 THE POLYTECHNIC EDUCATION APPROACH The polytechnic approach to education is generally characterized by the use of: –hands-on active learning that is project-based; –classrooms and laboratories that are configured for intellectual engagement in context; –interactions between students working in teams; and, –focus on real-world problems at the state-of- the-art.

7 Faculty members are selected for their: –Academic credentials and state-of-the-art expertise in specific fields of knowledge; –relevant experience in professional practice; –ability to adjust to the demands of teaching in a content volatile field; –ability to interpret the modern technological workplace to students; and, –the desire to engage in scholarly endeavors and use-inspired research and development. 2.2 THE POLYTECHNIC FACULTY

8 2.3 POLYTECHNIC DIFFERENTIATING FACTORS 1. a professional competence focused program of study; 2. an industry experienced faculty; 3. interactive learning venues; 4. a high value is placed on learning by doing; 5. teaching and learning techniques that enable personal construction of knowledge; 6. special effort is made to keep program content current; and, 7. close collaboration with business and industry.

9 3.0 POLY PORTFOLIO OF PROGRAMS ASU Poly has over 6500 students enrolled in: 32 BS degrees; 9 MS/MA degrees; 1 Ph.D. program; There is also a BAS degree program with 22 concentrations that facilitate AAS articulation on a 2+2 basis; 5 Colleges and schools; and, 9 academic departments.

POLY STUDENTS: are interested in careers associated with the creation and use of cutting edge knowledge and skill; enjoy hands-on interaction with their environment; work with and respect the achievement of others; seek personal economic status that is consistently near the high end of the American workforce income; and, accept the challenge of continuous knowledge improvement through life-long learning using both formal and informal study.
