English 2010-2011 Welcome back, Moguls!

Some of my summer… Working Gardening Working In-services Playing

And the big one… I got married! Yep, the name is now “Ferley,” not Wickersham. That’s Ferley, not Farley. (He’s not rich, he’s not dead, and he’s not even all that funny )

Some of my goals for the year: To teach all of the standards so each of you master them To teach 21 st century skills (those skills that people in the business world say you will actually need when you get out) To do my part to make this the year that we all look back on and think, “Man, we learned a lot that year!”

Procedures, Old and New Hand in folders Hand out folders Do NOT “hand things in” on my desk. I will not be held responsible for finding your stuff there!

Journal Every day there will be a prompt on the board. Come in, sit down, and respond creatively and intelligently. This is a writing activity, but it is a thinking activity as well. Please date each entry and put as many on one page as fit. Don’t forget you are responsible for them all! Even when absent.

Assignments Again, I will keep an assignment book, in case you are absent or forget what you are supposed to be doing. However, you will have to check out my website to see it! This is what it looks like! http://ferley.wikispaces.com/Assignment+Book

Speaking of assignments Believe me, I know that grading English is not the same as grading math! There is more than one right answer on an opinion question! The good news: I don’t really grade on whether you agree with me. I do grade on: An actual idea within your answer Support to show me how you came up with that answer/why you think that way Complete, grammatically correct sentences (this is English!)

And one last important thing Headings on papers! You have to have this on all papers, or you might, scratch that, WILL have points docked. If you turn in a heading, you will always get a grade! So, the new requirements, all in the upper right-hand corner: Your name (easy) Your number (I’ll give this to you) Assignment (page number, question numbers) Date Due (the day you turn this in)

Questions? Concerns? Comments? What did I miss? Is there something on my nose? Seriously, why are you all staring at me?

I know I am going to! Have a great year, Moguls!
