Teaching Resource (Practice and Drill or Presentation or Simulation) BIOLOGY FORM THREE TOPIC-ECOLOGY SUB TOPIC-BIOTIC INTER-RELATIONSHIPS

Lesson Objectives.Learner should be able to explain different concepts in biotic inter-relationships - Learner should be able to describe different types of biotic inter-relationships

Introduction VIDEO CLIP-BIOTIC INTER-RELATIOSHIPS BIO VIDEO CLIPS\Elements of Biology Ecosystems Organisms and Their Environment ipad.mp4 BIO VIDEO CLIPS\Elements of Biology Ecosystems Organisms and Their Environment ipad.mp4

FOOD WEB

Remembering and Understanding Questions What do you remember about a video clip? How would you define habitat? What is an ecological niche? Describe what is meant by the word food chain and food web.

Topic Resource (Teacher introduces the technology resource and applying & analyzing questions. Students complete questions and/ or exercises individually or in groups or with the whole class) In groups, describe the following terms; -competition -predator-prey relationship -parasitism -symbiosis -saprophytism

Biotic inter-relationships Competition-occurs when two different species require a common resource which is limited. Predation-food relationship in which one organism kills another for food and feeds on it either wholly or in part Parasitism-relationship in which an organism obtains nutrients from another live organism without killing it

Biotic inter-relationships Symbiosis-an association between organisms of different species in which both organisms benefit

Conclusion Teacher and students review learning (teacher uses summary evaluating-creating type questions) Give an example of each of the following; a)A predator and a prey. b)A parasite and a host c)A saprophyte d)Two symbiotic organisms
