 Please retrieve your science notebook as you enter the classroom.  Please Verify that your Table of Contents is up to date. Please see the side board for an updated T.O.C.  Label the top of PAGE 28 as THUNDERSTORMS, TORNADOES, & HURRICANES.

 Lockers & Notebooks ◦ A trend I have noticed ◦ If you did not turn in your notebook on Friday, please show it to me by the end of today ◦ This notebook check was worth 50 points (2 quiz grades)  Stations/Labs ◦ Some classes were FABULOUS, others will have to earn back the privilege of working independently in a lab setting. ◦ I will NOT put the class in an unsafe situation.

 This week we will be covering: ◦ Thunderstorms ◦ Tornadoes ◦ Hurricanes  Today: ◦ Discovery Ed Video & Viewing Guide (40 minutes) ◦ Balloon Fun Facts (30 minutes)

 Please draw the chart on page 29. Please take up the entire page for this activity. Thunderstorm: Hurricane: Tornado:

 We are going to be competing in two teams.  Each team will have a “goalie” and two team captains. I will chose these positions.  The Goalie is the only person allowed to leave their seat.  The 2 team captains are the only individuals allowed to talk.  You may copy off another team member’s balloon.  The GOAL: All team members must collect all four facts for each of the storms.

Thunderstorm: Characterized by Lightning and Thunder Forms as a result of quickly rising warm, humid air Commonly found along cold fronts and with cumulonimbus clouds Hurricane: Low pressure system with sustained winds of more than 74 miles per hour Formed over tropical regions of the world and moves westward Warm water below the hurricane add energy and makes it faster. Tornado: Characterized by a violently rotating column of air stretching from clouds to the ground Caused by the up and down air motion of thunderstorms/hurricanes Becomes visible when joined by water droplets and debris
