Manufacturing the Base Plate #2. Contents of this presentation are for the machinist to view the best method of producing this foundational part to the Kit 1- Core. Entire document copyright 2012©5-Group Team

Raw Cut 316L-SS- Annealed This is a raw cut part and the outer dimensions can be smaller by an amount that allows a sheet of stainless to be used with a water jet cutting an entire sheet without waste. This strap is only used for inexpensive startup. I priced a piece from the intranet, 24” long x 4” wide x.750” thick, annealed 316L. The price was close to 72 bucks cut however we need to cut 3 pieces from that which costs additional time and money to be reviewed by Bill @ edgeion.com. 7/16/2012Machinist Review - Base Plate Indexing2

Top Face Indexing It seemed logical to use hand operated equipment for start up, this particular design references the part holes by use of an indexer on a hand mill or CNC ( computer numeric control ) machine. Reference is from center mark and drill through center mark with.2344” pilot/center, to be tapped later. Bore to depth.6094” to be tapped 18mm x 1.5. Circular index diameters indicate radius from center for all other holes drilled in top face. Cross hatching areas indicate mill or bore to depth, this drawing. 7/16/2012Machinist Review - Base Plate Indexing3

Bottom Face Indexing.2344” exists from the last process and the four leveler legs 15. install in the four holes.2280. Drill and tap to standard ¼” fine thread.5” deep. Center hole size may change, a pipe plug or sealed plug of some type will have to be sized as needed. 7/16/2012Machinist Review - Base Plate Indexing4

Side Cross Section The.2460 diameters are for the 13. ports and the coolant water port 11. These porting chambers are shown centered in relation to the length of each side. The conflict in this arrangement needs close tolerance and limited deviation in height in relation to the sides which should end up no less than.625” thick and can be.750” thick or greater. Machinist should be aware porting chamber 11. can be moved to avoid conflict with the stud 6. hole depths, as well as 13. on either chamber right or left. Hole diameters excluding.6094 can be altered in dimension dependent upon fitting cost and availability. 7/16/2012Machinist Review - Base Plate Indexing5
