Prisoners of Hope (3) Three Kinds of Fellowship

Points covered in this talk 1)Introduction: Double honor 2)Communal life of the Apostles 3)The Father /Son Relationship 4)The Brotherly Love 5)Applications

Double honor  Return to the stronghold, You prisoners of hope. Even today I declare That I will restore double to you. Zech 9:12  Instead of your shame you shall have double honor, And instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore in their land they shall possess double; Everlasting joy shall be theirs. Isa 61:7

The Sign of the commuinty  By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. John 13:35

All things common  44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Acts 2:44-46

The Maturity of the body  Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. Rom 15:14

The day is approaching  Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Heb 10:25

Liturgy of St Basil  Make us all worthy, O our Master, to partake, of your holies 1 unto the purification of our souls, our bodies and our spirits. That 2we may become one body and one spirit, and may 3have a share and an inheritance with all the saints who have pleased you since the beginning. Remember, O Lord, the peace of your one, only, holy, catholic and apostolic church.

St Paul and St Timothy

Genuine son  Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope,  To Timothy, a true ( genuine, sincere) son in the faith:  Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Tim 1:1-2

Holy Family  when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. 2 Tim 1:5

A Command  Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you. Heb 13:17

David and Jonathan Brotherly Love = φιλαδελφ ί α

The covenant  3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. 4 And Jonathan took off the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, even to his sword and his bow and his belt. 1 Sam 18:3,4

faithfulness  Now Saul spoke to Jonathan his son and to all his servants, that they should kill David; but Jonathan, Saul’s son, delighted greatly in David. 2 So Jonathan told David, saying, “My father Saul seeks to kill you. Therefore please be on your guard until morning, and stay in a secret place and hide. 1 Sam 19:1,2

Renewal of the vow  16 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, “Let the Lord require it at the hand of David’s enemies.” 17 Now Jonathan again caused David to vow, because he loved him; for he loved him as he loved his own soul. 1 Sam 20:16,17

A Command  Let brotherly love continue. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels. Remember the prisoners as if chained with them—those who are mistreated—since you yourselves are in the body also. Heb 13:1-3

St. Theopheles of Antioch  But those who do not worship God nor know Him, would be like some sort of birds, who, although they posses wings, yet they are unable to fly, thus they do not soar up in exalted godliness.

St. Ignatius of Antioch Epistle to the Romans, 7, 110 A.D  I desire the Bread of God, the heavenly Bread, the Bread of Life, which is the flesh of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who became afterwards of the seed of David and Abraham; I wish the drink of God, namely His blood, which is incorruptible love and eternal life.

Applications  What sort of atmosphere you made for yourself  How regular to meet or contact your Spiritual father and mentor  Do you have a brotherly love to support you in your walk?
