13 "A lot of patients hold things back from family and friends for fear of worrying them but open up to us as volunteers which is important for them.“ Brenda Campbell, volunteer “Rocco’s On Your Doorstep makes such a difference to carers too as just being able to have some time out often means the world to them. Time is the most precious gift you can give someone, as it’s the one thing you can never get back.” Roz Coleman, Voluntary Services Manager, St. Rocco’s

14 Ann Jackson, volunteer "The doorstep scheme started off with chats and a drink with the first lady I met and then I would take her to see her friends. "She really enjoyed the freedom of having someone to drop her off and pick her up during the day when her family were in work.” Ann Jackson, volunteer "The first patient couldn't really understand at first what I was doing visiting him as a complete stranger. "But we would sit and recall past times and subsequently became friends and I'm proud to have been invited to his funeral.” Ron Metheringham, volunteer
