The Color Wheel

Primary colors - these are colors that cannot be mixed; Red, Yellow, and Blue. These are the most important colors on the color wheel because they are the origin of every other color.

Secondary colors- orange green, and violet
Secondary colors- orange green, and violet. These colors are mixed by adding two primary colors together. Ex.: yellow and red make orange.

Tertiary colors - Red-orange, yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, red-violet; when naming these colors the primary color comes before the secondary color.

Analogous colors- colors that are adjacent (next to) each other on the color wheel.

Complementary colors - colors opposite each other on the color wheel
Complementary colors - colors opposite each other on the color wheel. Complementary colors exaggerate one another. Ex:. Red and Green, Blue and Orange

Monochromatic – The various hues within a color range
Monochromatic – The various hues within a color range. This means that you add black or white to a color to make a shade (darker) or a tint (lighter).

Black is the total absence of color.

White is the spectrum of all colors because white light creates them.
