1 EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) ADVANCING COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

2 ICT enables public libraries to increase access to knowledge and information that is essential to community development However, in developing countries – where the need is greatest – public libraries are under-resourced EIFL-PLIP context

3 EIFL-PLIP approach EIFL supports public library service innovations to meet local needs by: Grant support Knowledge sharing Capacity building Innovation awards

4 Innovative services piloted by EIFL- PLIP grantee libraries are now being offered by over 300 public libraries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. We are publishing 10 new case studies of 27 libraries that developed innovative services for children and youth. EIFL-PLIP 2015

5 Innovation Awards: 8 th IA of public libraries contributing to literacy has just closed: EIFL-PLIP 2015 Total 53 applications received from Africa, Asia, South America and Europe.

6 EIFL-PLIP CAPACITY BUILDING IN ETHIOPIA, GHANA, KENYA AND UGANDA Module 1: Advanced computer literacy for librarians – 40 hours Module 2: Internet resources and searching – 8 hours Module 3: New Services in public libraries – 24 hours Module 4: Communication, Advocacy and Awareness Raising for public libraries – 16 hours EIFL-PLIP 2015

11 We reached all public libraries that have computers and internet which equals 50% of all libraries in Ghana, Kenya & Uganda After training, over 90% of trainees felt prepared to implement new services All learners felt more skilled and motivated “I am proud, because I am empowered and able to offer training to others.
