Summary System Comparison DODVS Vibration Testing BTM BTM Automation Optics Lighting Questions Overview

Summary Oil is transferred from the maintenance roller to the drum before ink is transferred by the print head Ink transfer from drum to paper as the paper feeds between the transfix roller and drum

Objective: produce a imaging system that is capable of capturing ink drops on the drum of a solid ink printer and on the paper The imaging systems will be used by Xerox, Portland State Undergraduate and Graduate students for research of the solid-ink printing process. There is no specific imaging system that compares the drum images to paper images Summary

Previous System Clumsy to use Vibrates excessively Optical system does not meet desired image quality Bench Top Microscope Drop on Drum Vision System Computer Software (BTM)(DODVS)

Final System Bench Top Microscope Drop on Drum Vision System Computer Software (BTM)(DODVS)

DODVS Final Frame Design

DODVS Frame Uses 3x6 inch T-Slot vertical supports 3/4 inch thick aluminum base and top plate Added gussets increase natural frequency and decrease amplitude of oscillation

Previous system was heavy and cumbersome DODVS Optic Mounting

New system rotates camera to side DODVS Optic Mounting

DODVS Optic Mounting (view from rear)

DODVS Optic Mounting

Vibration Testing ANSYS simulation was verified using strain gage analysis

Same 3x6 inch T-Slot material Same 3/4 inch thick base and top plate Features cover plates to hide messy electronics and wires Very similar to DODVS construction BTM Frame Design

BTM Automation The BTM uses a stationary camera X-Y Stage donated by Xerox

BTM Automation Stage can be controlled electronically by the joystick control interface Hand-cranks added for finer adjustments

Existing camera and optic components reused to reduce cost An identical camera and optics purchased for BTM New optics system has magnification range 3x to 22x Optics

Gooseneck lighting system took too long to damping out Not enough light at maximum magnification with working distance (89 mm) of the lens Schott goosenecks to be stable but still did not provide sufficient lighting They did not provide focusing of the light output. A pair of focusing lenses were purchased for goosenecks Lighting

Total Cost Total Cost: $4,561.56 Xerox donated time and raw materials for all machined parts
